US Salary Paycheck Calculators by State

US State Salary Tax Calculators apply each state’s own 2026 income tax schedule alongside federal income tax and FICA. Pick a state below to calculate your salary after tax in that state, from Texas with no income tax at all to California with ten brackets.

How state income tax changes take home pay

Federal income tax, Social Security and Medicare apply identically in every state. State income tax is what makes take home pay differ by address, and the three systems in use produce very different results on the same salary.

9 states levy no income tax on wages: Alaska, Florida, Nevada, New Hampshire, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington and Wyoming. 15 states apply a single flat rate to all taxable income. The remaining 26 use graduated brackets, where each rate covers only the income inside its own band.

What each state calculator includes

Every page below runs the same engine: federal income tax, Social Security at 6.2% up to the annual wage base, Medicare at 1.45% uncapped, and that state’s own income tax. Each state carries its own brackets, standard deduction, personal exemption and any personal tax credit.

State schedules shown are the single-filer tables. City and county income taxes, which apply in states such as New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Maryland, fall outside the calculation and are stated on those pages.
