Income Tax Calculator Pakistan 2026-27

Pakistan income tax calculator uses FBR’s official income tax slabs for FY 2026-27 (tax year 2027) to calculate the salary tax on your monthly or yearly salary under section 149.

How the calculator works

Exactly what this calculator does with your Pakistan salary and every assumption it makes along the way.

How we work out your take-home pay

Pakistani salary tax is a single federal deduction, so no employee social contribution runs alongside it. The FBR slabs apply to annual taxable salary, and the employer withholds one twelfth of the yearly liability each month under section 149 of the Income Tax Ordinance 2001. A salary of PKR 3,000,000 produces PKR 276,000 of annual tax, PKR 23,000 a month, leaving PKR 2,724,000 take-home pay, an effective rate of 9.2%.

Step by step

  1. Convert monthly salary to an annual amount, if pay is quoted per month.
  2. Subtract tax-exempt medical allowance (up to 10% of basic salary), zakat paid, and any approved provident fund or pension contribution, using the fields on the form.
  3. Apply the eight FBR slabs for tax year 2027 progressively, starting with the PKR 600,000 exempt band.
  4. Divide the annual tax by 12 to give the monthly deduction.
  5. Subtract the tax from gross pay to give take-home pay, shown per year and per month.

Assumptions we make

  • Employment is salaried, with tax deducted at source under section 149;
  • Salary is the only head of income, and you are resident for the full tax year;
  • The salary slabs are the same whether you are a filer or a non-filer — the filer position affects withholding on other transactions, not the salary slab;
  • The 9% surcharge on income above PKR 10,000,000 does not apply, because it was abolished for salaried individuals from tax year 2027;
  • EOBI and provincial social security levies stay outside the figure;
  • Tax credits claimed on the annual return, such as for donations under section 61, are not applied.

When this is the wrong tool

The calculator assumes a resident salaried employee for the whole year. If you are self-employed or a business, a non-resident, changed jobs mid-year, or take a large part of your pay as a one-off bonus, the figure will differ. Non-salaried and business income still carries the 9% surcharge above PKR 10,000,000 and a different slab table.

Worked example, FY 2026-27
Gross salary Rs. 3,000,000 (Rs. 250,000/mo)
Income tax (tax year 2027) Rs. 276,000 (Rs. 23,000/mo)
Take-home pay Rs. 2,724,000 (Rs. 227,000/mo)
Effective tax rate 9.2%

What each field means

Each field below carries a definition and the effect it has on the calculated figure.

Gross (pre-tax) income

Your salary before income tax, the gross salary line on a Pakistani payslip. Enter it monthly or yearly.

Every figure in the result derives from it. Pakistani salaries are usually quoted per month, so the tool converts for you.

Fiscal year

The Pakistani tax year runs 1 July to 30 June and takes the number of the closing year, so FY 2026-27 is tax year 2027.

The FBR changed the salary slabs in most of the last five budgets, so the year you pick changes the tax on an identical salary. Years back to FY 2022-23 are loaded for comparison.

Tax residency

Residence follows 183 days or more in Pakistan during the tax year.

Residents are taxable on worldwide income and non-residents on Pakistan-source income, which changes what belongs in the gross figure.

Provident fund / pension contribution

Your own contribution to an approved provident fund or pension scheme, per year.

It is taken off taxable salary before the slabs apply, so it lowers the tax.

Medical allowance, zakat & other deductions

Your annual tax-exempt medical allowance (up to 10% of basic salary), zakat paid under the Zakat and Ushr Ordinance, and any other admissible deduction.

These reduce taxable salary. Medical allowance above 10% of basic is taxable and should not be entered here.

Income tax on salary in Pakistan: FBR slabs, filer status and take-home pay

How the FBR salary tax slabs work

Pakistani salary tax applies eight progressive slabs from 0% to 35% for tax year 2027, and each rate covers only the income inside its own slab. Annual salary up to PKR 600,000, PKR 50,000 a month, carries no tax. The FBR publishes each slab as a fixed amount plus a rate on the excess, so the third slab reads "Rs. 6,000 + 11% of the amount exceeding Rs. 1,200,000". That fixed amount is the cumulative tax at the slab floor, so it gives the same figure as applying every rate in turn. Your employer deducts one twelfth of the yearly tax from each month's pay under section 149.

The 2026-27 budget changes

The Finance Act 2026 made three changes for the salaried class from 1 July 2026:

  • Lower rates across the middle slabs. The old 23% and 30% rates were cut, and new 20%, 25%, 29% and 32% steps were added in between, so most salaries pay less than in FY 2025-26.
  • The 35% top rate now starts at PKR 7,000,000 of annual taxable income, raised from PKR 4,100,000.
  • The 9% surcharge is abolished for salaried individuals. It previously added 9% to the tax bill on incomes above PKR 10,000,000. It still applies to non-salaried and business income.

The PKR 600,000 exempt threshold, PKR 50,000 a month, is unchanged.

Filer vs non-filer: does it change your salary tax?

No. The salary tax slabs are identical for filers and non-filers. Your employer deducts the same amount under section 149 whether or not you are on the FBR Active Taxpayer List. The filer position matters elsewhere: a non-filer pays higher withholding tax on buying or selling property and vehicles, on bank withdrawals and profit on debt, on dividends and prize money, and cannot claim a refund of over-deducted tax without filing a return. Check your status on the FBR Active Taxpayer List, and file an annual return through the IRIS portal to become a filer.

Medical allowance, zakat and provident fund

Three deductions lower the taxable salary the slabs apply to, and the form collects each one:

  • Medical allowance is exempt up to 10% of your basic salary. Anything above that is taxable.
  • Zakat paid under the Zakat and Ushr Ordinance, including zakat deducted by a bank, is a straight deduction from taxable income.
  • Provident fund or approved pension contributions you make yourself are taken off before the slabs apply.

Conveyance allowance, house rent and other allowances are generally taxable as part of salary and belong in the gross figure.

The June budget and the salaried class

Pakistan's federal budget is announced each June and takes effect on 1 July. It is the moment the FBR revises the salary slabs, so it triggers the year's largest wave of "how much tax will be deducted from my salary" searches. This calculator carries the FY 2026-27 slabs and the four previous years, and is updated when the next Finance Act changes them.

Pakistan income tax calculator FAQs

What are the FBR tax slabs for FY 2026-27?

Eight salary slabs: 0%, 1%, 11%, 20%, 25%, 29%, 32% and 35%. Income up to PKR 600,000 is exempt, 1% runs to PKR 1,200,000, 11% to PKR 2,200,000, 20% to PKR 3,200,000, 25% to PKR 4,100,000, 29% to PKR 5,600,000, 32% to PKR 7,000,000, and 35% above that. Each rate applies only to the income inside its slab.

How much tax will be deducted on a monthly salary of PKR 200,000?

PKR 13,000 a month, PKR 156,000 for the year, leaving PKR 187,000 a month take-home. That is PKR 2,400,000 gross a year: PKR 116,000 on the first PKR 2,200,000, then 20% on the remaining PKR 200,000. The effective rate is 6.5%.

Which salary is tax-free in Pakistan?

Annual salary up to PKR 600,000, which is PKR 50,000 a month, carries no income tax. The 1% rate starts on the first rupee above that, so a PKR 700,000 salary carries only PKR 1,000 of tax for the year.

Do filers and non-filers pay different salary tax?

No. The section 149 salary slabs are the same for both. Being a non-filer costs you elsewhere: higher withholding tax on property, vehicles, bank transactions, dividends and prize money, and no way to claim a refund of over-deducted tax. File a return through IRIS to get onto the Active Taxpayer List.

Is the 9% surcharge still charged in FY 2026-27?

Not for salaried individuals. The 9% surcharge on taxable income above PKR 10,000,000 was abolished for the salaried class from tax year 2027. It still applies to non-salaried and business income above that threshold.

Can this calculator show earlier fiscal years?

Yes. The fiscal year selector covers FY 2022-23 through FY 2026-27. Because the FBR changed the salary slabs in most of those budgets, the same salary produces a different tax figure in each year, which makes the tool useful for checking a back year or comparing the effect of a budget.
